cornua

In this series of nine sculptures I wanted to explore creating naturalistic textures that appear heartless. I use different slip trailing techniques to evoke primal emotion. Feral horns that display growth outward like the inner rings of a tree would if it could. I experiment with different colors of translucent overglazes to create one of a kind exteriors that seem to pulse with life. A scaly surface made beautiful even though what is pushing/protruding through to the outside is sharply uninviting and jagged, making them hard to physically love. Mixing the symbolic and the actual yields a prickly, barbaric and alluring result.
